About

My Story

A small-town boy from Ontario with a big heart, I moved from St. Kitts to Manisnowba to study, and for love interests that didn’t pan out. While “studying” for my masters, I met my would-be husband while dancing to Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’. A love that I cannot speak highly enough of, we have since adopted a dog, traveled Peru & Europe, and relocated from Winterpeg to wine country, BC. Currently working at Okanagan College, my goal this year is to develop shareable open-ended calculus resources for mathematics educators around the globe.

Accomplishments:

  • Organizer of the Spring into Math Event: a day of interactive and movement-based mathematics for elementary school students, hosted by Okanagan College
  • Established presenter in Canada (BC, SK, MB, ON, PEI) and internationally (NY, DC)
  • Finalist for the Strong Start Faculty Award at Okanagan College

  1. Hi, I found your blog while searching for feedback on Waterloo MMT program. I have noticed that you’ve done MMT and another masters, may I ask why? What made you decide to get two masters, and what makes MMT stand out from a “regular” masters in math?

    • Hey Jackie,
the MMT is designed for high school teachers who might be looking to upgrade or extend their learning in many areas of mathematics. I took the second masters since I am heavily focused on mathematics teaching within my career, and I thought it would help me stand out from the crowd. It also allowed me to take some math courses that I wasn’t able to during my undergrad/grad programs such as math finance or cryptography. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at bryan.penfound@gmail.com. 🙂
